E.J. Miller Construction Company, Inc. began in
1949 as E.N. Miller & Sons, building speculative homes. In 1965,
the focus of the company changed to building custom homes and the
company name was changed to E.J. Miller Construction Company, Inc.
Since then, our primary focus has been building individual custom
homes on the customer’s property. E.J. Miller Construction also
builds some custom commercial projects and residential renovations.

& Mary (M.B.A., 1985)
As a third generation builder, Joe is well
acquainted with the building industry. At the age of 15, he began
working summers and holidays on the job sites for his father until
his graduation from Virginia Tech. Upon graduation, Joe worked for
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Geotechnical Design Engineer
for four years. At the Corps, he was responsible for foundation and
earthwork designs for various military and civil works projects.
With the goal of owning his own company, Joe returned to school and
received his Masters in Business Administration from the College of
William & Mary.
In 1985, Joe returned to Roanoke and went into
business with his father at E.J. Construction Company, Inc. He
bought the company in 1986 and has served as president and owner to
date. As a small business owner, Joe is personally involved in all
aspects of the building process from start to finish. This includes
the bidding process, routine meetings with clients, and job
supervision. He remains committed to building quality construction
in custom residential homes and renovations in Roanoke and the
surrounding areas.

Kenneth
N. Potter, born Coconut Grove, Florida, July 5,1962. Education:
North Carolina State University (B.S., 1985)
Ken has always had a desire to build and
create. At N. C. State University, he received a Bachelor in
Science degree in Industrial Engineering, specifically in Furniture
Manufacturing and Management. He then worked in the Engineering and
Product Development Departments at Rowe Furniture for 11 years.
Here he established and implemented CAD/CAM/CMC Systems and teams
for woodworking and furniture design. Outside of the office, he
spent most of his time renovating his home and building an addition.
Ken began working for E.J. Miller Construction
as Construction Manager in 1996. He is responsible for coordinating
and supervising the company carpentry and painting crews, as well
as, subcontractors on numerous construction jobs simultaneously.
Ken enjoys the hands-on experience in building as well as
interacting with the clients. He is fully committed to building a
quality product that meets the needs and desires of the future
homeowner.
